Gran Canaria General Climate
The general yearly climate of Gran Canaria is one dominated by spring. The air temperature variates between 18 and 24-25 degrees Celsius. The climate and meteorology researchers (University of Siracusa) conducted several scientifically based studies and agreed that Gran Canaria is one of the few places on the Earth with best climate.
Since it´s known as a "Continent in Miniature", because of the high mountains in the middle, valleys, depressions and the coast at the Atlantic Ocean, the island of Gran Canaria exhibits different microclimates. A dry and sunny weather dominates the south all year round - tourist resorts like Maspalomas, Playa del Ingles or Meloneras are permanently full of tourists, finding here a place where summer never ends. Most of the coastline has a permanent sunny and warm weather. In the mountains, the sea influence is diminished and the precipitations (rain and sometimes in the winter, even snow) quantities increases. The sea water temperature variates from 18 till 20, and sometimes 24-26 degrees Celsius near the shoreline.
The annul estimated rate of sunlight is higher then 2,500 hours making from Gran Canaria one of the best destinations for outdoor sports and beach activities. However, the trade winds come sometimes with fresh chilling air over the Canary Islands.
